You'll often hear about DFD. Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is a method to create a system oriented by data flow that moves at a later system. In the Information Systems development, DFD is often used. DFD is made by analysts for making a good system. Where DFD is later given to the programmer to do the coding process. Where the programmer did a coding according to the DFD made by analysts before. Tools used in the manufacture of Data Flow Diagram (DFD) is EasyCase, Power Designer 6.

One other way to design a system that is using UML (Unified Language Manual). But that I will discuss in another post.

The Components of Data Flow Diagram (DFD):
  1. User / Terminator, The unity outside the system (external entity) that provides input to the system or receive outputs from the system of people, organizations, or other systems.
  2. Process, which process the activity inputs into outputs.
  3. Data Flow, flow data on the system (inter-process, between the terminator & processes, and between process & data store).
  4. Data Store, Data storage in the database, usually in the form of tables.

In its manufacture, comprising DFD Level 0 or Level Context (Context Diagram) and the n-th level. During the DFD can be described in more detail, the more levels are created. So, DFD level 0, or Context level consists of a process, a number of terminators and data flow input / output, without the Data Store. The number of terminators and of data flow from or to the terminator at all levels of the same DFD. All processes have both input and output data flow. DataStore located at all levels of the DFD, DFD Leel except for 0.

Here was a brief description of Understanding Data Flow Diagram (DFD). If there are errors or omissions please justified or added. May be useful ..
